Genetic Testing for Antidepressant Medication Matching

Find Your Antidepressant Match with Genetic Testing

Finding the right antidepressant that really works for you can be a frustrating series of unsuccessful attempts. Repeated trials of different dosages and types of antidepressants help get you closer to finding the one that will work for you. But for too many patients, the process takes too long, involves unacceptable side effects, or simply doesn’t yield a satisfactory result.

Fortunately, there’s a better way. At Colorado Recovery Solutions, we offer genetic testing that uses your body’s unique genetic code to better match the antidepressant medication that will work best for you.

By understanding your genetic makeup, we can better fit the right medication to your body’s specific response profile. Genetic testing helps us identify which medications are most likely to produce the best depression-lowering result while also minimizing side effects. Research shows that using a genetic test as part of depression treatment can be nearly two times more effective than the old trial-and-error method at alleviating depression and anxiety symptoms.

Depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders are complex conditions and antidepressants are complex pharmaceutical treatments. Give yourself the best chance at success by taking advantage of genetic testing at Colorado Recovery Solutions.

How It Works

  • The genetic sample is collected with a simple cheek swab. This can be performed in our office or at home with a kit mailed to you directly.
  • The sample is sent to a lab for analysis
  • Your results are typically available at our office within 2 weeks of submitting your sample
  • Your provider will use this information to identify medication options that are optimally matched to you and may make adjustments to your treatment plan based on your test results

Genetic testing runs a full battery test and delivers key drug compatibility information:

        • Marijuana compatibility
        • Psychiatric medication compatibility (drugs such as Zoloft, Adderall, Prozac Lexapro, Abilify, and Effexor)
        • Neurologic medication compatibility (drugs such as Gabapentin, Lamictal, Topamax, Lithium, and Depakote)

Is genetic testing covered by insurance?

Genetic testing is a 100% covered benefit for TRICARE and Medicare patients and is free of charge for all TRICARE and Medicare patients. There is no copay or deductible for TRICARE or Medicare members for genetic testing. This service is available at no cost to you.

For patients with commercial insurance, the coverage for genetic testing varies by insurance company. We can help you determine if genetic testing is a covered benefit under your plan. If not, genetic testing is available for $295 for self-pay patients, with a manufacturer discount available for up to $100 off the testing cost, depending on eligibility. We will provide you with the form necessary to receive the manufacturer discount.
